Perfect breakfast in town?
For a fluffy stack of pancakes that might just change your life, head to The Commerce Inn in the West Village. I find myself thinking about these pancakes more often than I’d like to admit.
Local market or supermarket?
The Union Square Greenmarket is hands down the best farmers’ market in NYC. It’s about a two minute walk from my apartment, and I'm there almost every day it’s open (Mon, Weds, Fri, Sat). You can’t leave without a loaf of She Wolf sourdough.
Sit in or grab and go for lunch?
If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with S&P Luncheonette in Flatiron. This old school Jewish deli originally opened in 1929, but was recently updated by the owners of legendary sandwich shop Court Street Grocers. The matzo ball soup, the tuna melt, the cottage fries—you truly cannot go wrong. And because the majority of seating is at a counter, it’s a great place to grab a bite solo.
Favourite shop?
Los Angeles-based design shop Nickey Kehoe recently opened a charming location in New York, and it’s now my go-to spot for the perfect gift. Nestled in a quaint townhouse in Greenwich Village; the ground level is stocked with utilitarian homegoods like wooden brooms and enamelware, while upstairs is all about their original and vintage furniture.
Art, Arcade or Apparel?
Not enough people talk about Salon 94! This expansive 17,500-square-foot gallery, right next to The Guggenheim (might as well hit them both in one trip), is constantly cycling in amazing design-focused exhibitions. But beyond the art, the space itself is absolutely breathtaking. And since it’s a gallery, not a museum, you can simply walk right in—no ticket or reservation required. Trust me, your camera roll will thank you. For the perfect Upper East Side afternoon, grab coffee and cake at Cafe Sabarsky after.
A quiet spot to chill?
Another place people don’t talk about enough: Quad Cinema. Tucked away on a quiet Greenwich Village block, I recently saw The Substance here on an otherwise planless night, and now I can’t stop talking about the movie... or the theater. The stylized lobby is drenched in a glossy red finish—from the walls to the concessions counter.
Fun things to do?
Last summer, my sister and I walked from the top of Manhattan to the bottom. It wasn’t easy, and we definitely hit highs and lows, but it was a great way to spend time in parts of the city we wouldn’t have gone otherwise. You’re going to want to start early (it took us 7 hours including breaks), and plan something to look forward to after. We made a reservation at the spa Bathouse, which was the perfect reward.
Best spot for people watching?
Literally anywhere! This town is full of amazing characters.
A good night out in the city?
My go-to is Jac’s on Bond in Noho. It has it all: great cocktails, moody lighting, a pool table, and a chatty crowd. Plus, it closes at midnight—which might make me sound like a grandma, but there’s something refreshing about being forced to call it a night and be left wanting more.
Best place to stay?
I’ve always loved The Ludlow on the Lower East Side. The rooms are as cozy and comfortable as can be, and the lobby is filled with some show-stopping furniture. Not to mention, you can roll out of bed and go to Russ & Daughters for a classic NYC Bagel.
Note: The editor of this newsletter has both stayed at the Ludlow and ''rolled out of bed for a Russ & Daughters bagel” and wholeheartedly endorses this recommendation!
